@bosak Here's the first photo's location today. The trees have grown a bit since then!
@bosak I tried to recreate this photo but can't be sure which building this is. Do you happen to remember? It feels like the backside of Rivera Library, but that arch-covered walkway is in the wrong place...
@bosak These signed concrete slabs are still here! I believe they were moved yet again when the Highlander Union Building was built.

@bosak That's fantastic! I'm glad that you're in contact with the University Archivist.

Please drop by if you're ever back on campus - I'd love to hear some of your memories of the place and treat you to lunch (though you wouldn't believe what they've done to the Barn...)

@bosak Has anyone at UCR ever approached you about acquiring or displaying your collection? It seems like the library's Special Collections folks would be very interested in your photos, and I'd love for our current students to have a way to learn about the vibrant history of their university. If this sounds interesting then I'd be happy to try to facilitate an introduction, but if not please disregard. Either way, thank you for sharing this collection on Mastodon/Bluesky!
@bosak Hi Jon, I'm a professor of bioengineering at UCR and I follow you mostly via your Bluesky bridge. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your UCR photos. I'm an armchair architecture historian and I love seeing the ways our physical campus has (and hasn't) changed over the decades.

In honor of R.E.M. performing together again last night, here's a little story about my adventure leading up to seeing them perform in Knoxville in 1995: https://groverlab.org/hnbfpr/2023-10-08-r-e-m-james-agee.html #REM

TIL: Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 on a coin-operated typewriter he found in the basement of UCLA's Powell Library:

“So, exhilarated, I got a bag of dimes and settled into the room, and in nine days I spent $9.80 and wrote my story; in other words, it was a dime novel,” Bradbury said.
