@strght They're for food. Being in such a remote location, most weeks of the year the greenhouse is the only source of fresh veg (though in the summer we do get occasional shipments of "freshies" from the outside world).

@JenniferSlack Yes, we are isolating because a covid outbreak at South Pole would be especially dangerous due to the altitude, the remoteness, and the limited medical care capacity. To reduce the risk of covid getting to Pole, we separate ourselves from the wider McMurdo community for at least 5 days, and test before boarding a plane to Pole. We also test again a few days after arrival at Pole.

Made it to McMurdo on Monday. We have to isolate here for 5 days before we can continue to Pole, but we're allowed to enjoy the many great hikes around McMurdo while we're in isolation.
