A Winnipeg-based pedestrian, both in transportation and the class war. I believe in making cities functional so people can live their lives to the fullest without needing a car.

And so many other people are taking pics. 🤍
There are so many news cameras here.
I did it, I just (legally) crossed Portage and Main as a pedestrian (not part of a special event) for the first time in my life.

A pick-up truck stalled on the road on Broadway and is now taking up two lanes of traffic that cars during rush hour have to work around with the one lane remaining.

Motor vehicles are too big and too many.

I saw this goose in this planter while walking my dog yesterday evening and wanted to take a normal picture, but she got very defensive and I got this pic instead. Afterwards she freaked out as my dog tried to take a closer look, so she flew on top of a higher structure on the other side of the sidewalk, still shouting in distress.
Pro tip for #walking in #Winnipeg: if you ask yourself "I wonder if the river walk path is still too muddy to walk down" then it absolutely is and you should not bother to go find out the hard way. 😬

This kind of thing can happen at any time from anyone in the driver seat of a regular household weapon. They know they are armed and some might get in a bad enough mood to use it—over something as materially unimportant yet culturally worshipped as a parking spot.

Jfc. Car driving is a social illness.

Pedestrian hit by car in parking lot dispute

A parking lot argument escalated to an assault charge for a 40-year-old Winnipeg woman who is accused of hitting a pedestrian who was trying to save a parking spot. It happened at about 2:30 p.m. on...

Temperatures plunging by 15 degrees overnight has turned the flooded side streets in the Village into thick ice that is not always safe to walk on. Be careful, Peggers!

I hope all the pedestrians in Winnipeg and wherever else is in a melting/re-freezing phase are staying safe. Look out for thin ice on concrete. I walked down a staircase from a bridge to a sidewalk this morning and it was very dangerous. Luckily I was holding onto the (disgustingly dirty) railing and didn't make any major slips.

There is so much dangerous sidewalk at this time of year, let alone drivers splashing pedestrians. (And yet so many people talk positively about this weather.)

This sums up Winnipeg winter sidewalks pretty well (or at least the ones that are ploughed...).
