The only way to deal with a fascist is to drop the assumption of good faith.
You know what they want: to harm vulnerable people, one way or another.
So you don't give an inch.
You call their disingenuous little acts faking civility and reason out for the bullshit they are.

The same for many other marginalized groups.

Centralised services like Twitter are incredibly easy to buy out. If you move from Twitter to another centralised service, sooner or later that will get bought out too.
The point of the Fediverse is to break this buyout cycle, to let people be permanently in control of their accounts. More info here:

@librarianshipwreck I think some of the lack of activity here is that it isn't as developed as Twitter. The interactions and experience are vastly different and unfamiliar to most Twitter refugees.
