What's the best way to (start) learning a language? - Lemmy.World

I traveled to Japan for a few weeks last year and had grand plans to learn a bunch of phrases, but got lazy and punked out. I still had a great time, everyone was super kind, but it was embarrassing how well so many folks spoke English and I couldn’t even be assed to put in a bit of work. My wife is half Mexican and we’re in California, and she gets a lot of people initially talking to her in Spanish, which she can’t speak beyond an ordering food level, and would like to change that. What’s the best way for us both to get to a beginning conversational level in Spanish? I tried Duolingo a while ago and it was eh, and I’ve heard it’s all AI these days. Any other recommendations?

Can corn be transplanted? - Lemmy.World

Happy Saturday all! I’m growing corn for the second year in my little raised bed and I’m trying it from seed this time. It’s mostly gone well and some of them are to the point I should cull them down to one sprout a spot, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to transplant the second highest stalk on each to fill in spots none of them sprouted from. If so, any tips on the process?

Trophies and knickknacks for my friend's board game birthday - Lemmy.World

A buddy’s been hosting a board game birthday for ten years now and I wanted to bring some fun printed stuff. Have trophies for the most and second most wins, plus the green one for him as it’s his favorite color, and one for whomever plays the most games that day. Also printing out assorted little meeple with the ten/X on them.
