Started in Jr High School using an Apple II+, but my parents could never afford one, so I ended up with Commodores instead!

Collection includes Apple, Commodore, Sinclair and Atari - whichever one I'm using depends on my whim at the moment... I also have an interest in things analog, including fountain pens, pencils, notebooks and journalling.

It’s working! Please disregard the bad cable management, that’s my next task…here’s my #MARCHintosh configuration:

- PowerBook 5300ce running System 7.6.1, AIR and Simple Spooler
- iMac G3 running Mac OS 9.2
- ImageWriter II printer

Two steps forward, one step back… went to add the ImageWriter II, which is connected via PhoneNet to the PowerBook, and when I started the router I got this. Printer worked ok on initial test when LocalTalk Built In selected in the network control panel, but not when I switch to Ether Talk and start the router. I feel like I’m missing something obvious, but I’m not sure what…. #MARCHintosh #GlobalTalk
Woo hoo! It’s working! Successfully connected to Joe’s Computer Museum across #GlobalTalk. I think this is a good stopping point for tonight… just have to set up the printer and file shares and I’m ready to go for #MARCHintosh!
Success! I got my 30 year old #PowerBook to talk over the internet via WiFi! Next step, get #GlobalTalk working… #MARCHintosh
After the better part of the day trying to install the #GlobalTalk image on my hard drive and getting bus error bombs… finally, success! Turns out I was failing to update the driver for the hard drive after initializing it. Goes to show how much I still have to learn about pre-Intel Macs. 🙂 #MARCHintosh
The printer cables arrived, the ImageWriter is connected to the IIe, and I’ve got a fresh copy of The Print Shop loaded up on floppy… looking great! #AppleII #ImageWriterII
The LocalTalk option card has been installed, and the printer seems ready to go! Next task - set up the LocalTalk network and test. #ImageWriterII #GlobalTalk
Well, while I’m waiting for a ribbon to arrive, I opted to try a reink of the existing ribbon with stamp pad ink. I tried to distribute it as evenly as possible and let it soak in for about 48 hours. After a few dozen pages in test mode,I think it’s starting to look halfway decent! #ImagewriterII
Spent some time cleaning up the top cover of the Imagewriter - with some Goo Gone and some elbow grease, I was able to clean out all the old disintegrated foam and replaced it with fresh foam tape.
In the meantime, I’m debating what I can do to the existing ribbon cartridge while I wait for the new one. Considering either a WD-40 application or outright re-ink with stamp pad ink… any thoughts or recommendations?
