From junk, I've made a neat looking l-match for an end-fed half-wave antenna. In the centre, there is a capacitor made of copper foil tape on either side of a piece of 0.6mm thick PET that I cut to fit inside the pill bottle. I expect it'll tolerate about 20W from the transmitter as long as it's matching.

Made a somewhat usable bandpass filter for the 30m band mostly using spare parts. It has about 10db of insertion loss (I should have wound the transformer windings atop one another instead of side-by-side). I seem to be able to compensate for that with my sdr's gain, at least. I've got it centred on the qrss area. #amateurradio #QRSS
Having some initial success with the (tr)uSDX I just built! #truSDX #hamradio #amateurradio
Plenty more testing to do with it before I transmit, but I am pleased to have it running without smoke.
I've gotten a (tr)uSDX kit as a gift, and I'm excited to start building. I'll need to build a new antenna for it, too, which is always some extra fun. Probably a linked EFHW.

I got my advanced qualification for amateur radio today! I'm looking forward to all sorts of wild projects.

I just got my first HF-capable radio: A Yaesu FT-857D. It has stripes on the LCD, but seems to be in full working order. Now I need a power supply, cables, and antenna.

I'm considering the uBitX v6 as my first HF rig. I really appreciate the open source design and firmware.

I'm likely to want to modify its form factor and improve its power consumption, for better POTA use.

Good plan? Any tinkerers/hackers suggesting alternatives?

Hello radio folks and all!
I am a new Canadian amateur radio operator, with the callsign VE4BRE.
I got into amateur radio with the ambition of designing and building my own radios. I don't have all the certifications, yet, but it's coming along. In the meantime, I enjoy making antennas and experimenting with open source tools.
