I grew up on 8bit and 16bit machines, starting with an IBM AT at home and an Apple IIe at school. Later I ran DOS, Windows 3.1, OS/2, Windows 95/98, and Linux at home on various PC machines and 68k Macs at school. I also worked with various UNIX flavors over the years. These days I manage a software team.

My interests include: embedded software, electronics, retro computing, old macs, and ham radio (JJ1OKA / NU8W).

I live in Tokyo, Japan.

Thanks to @BlueSCSI and @KayKoba my new #Mac #Quadra 700 is booting up! I transferred my A/UX image from the emulator, and it appears to be booting up ok, but I'm sure there are bound to be some hiccups. #retrocomputing #A/UX
Minor update on the Quadra 700: No battery damage from the 27 year old battery and a full 64MB of RAM! #retrocomputing #mac #quadra #quadra700
I paid way too much for it, but check out my new Quadra 700! This will hopefully be my new A/UX machine. #retrocomputing #mac #quadra #quadra700
Unfortunately, it looks like I can't enable AppleTalk file sharing on A/UX, or at least not through the GUI.
Although I used SunOS, Linux, and to a lesser extent FreeBSD a bit in the late 90s, it wasn't until '99 that I really got into Linux and other flavors of UNIX like AIX (while working at IBM). Compared to what I'm familiar with, A/UX is amazingly simple. You can really see how the entire UNIX ecosystem was still in flux in the late 80s. ANSI C wasn't even standardized yet. Adding bash, gcc, and less has made A/UX much more usable for me. I can't believe how much tab completion makes life easier!
I've been playing with A/UX running in a VM. I'm quite liking it so far. I plan to move this to real hardware when I get a chance to, but thanks to my previous work the A/UX VM already sees all the #Globaltalk hosts. #retrocomputing #unix #mac
Reorganized my collection. Still need to get my SE/30 working. I'd like to put A/UX on it.
These copilot code suggestions are freaky accurate. #copilot #ai #llm #vscode
I added a dialup modem to my BBS (via a VOIP line). The number is 512-333-1997. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you or not. I'm not entirely sure that the audio codec on the VOIP line will properly handle the FSK modulation from the modem, and I don't have a way to test it myself. I'm using a PSTN adapter box and routing the calls through an Asterisk PBX on my Linux machine.
