Just skimmed an article on the Mac Neo's implications on Chromebooks (
https://chromeunboxed.com/the-new-macbook-neo-puts-massive-pressure-on-googles-project-aluminium-aspirations/) and it made me think... ChromeOS merged onto the Android stack is a minor change, since Chrome is still the main real "app" and would barely change anything for the user... BUT what if they announce AluminumOS as a full-fledged OS, and good news! If you develop for Android you're already an AluminumOS dev, just select it as the target in your IDE?

The new MacBook Neo puts massive pressure on Google’s ‘Project Aluminium’ aspirations
Apple has finally done something many of us thought would eventually happen: they’ve built a modern, capable MacBook for a $599 starting price. The newly announced MacBook Neo isn't just a budget laptop; it’s a calculated strike at the heart of the $600–$700 laptop market - a space where Chromebook Plus has held solid ground...
Chrome Unboxed - The Latest Chrome OS NewsMar 9th Con: Stupid time change and now it's Monday and I'm tired.
Pro: Warm enough today (finally) that I didn't need to wear a coat, or hat, gloves, or boots on my commute!
Con: T'is but Fool's Spring, and the coat, hat, gloves, and boots are forecast to return within the week...
@neil It would make it more interesting to me (looked at it briefly as a replacement for my work Mac, but min requirements are now 32G of RAM)
@jsnell Very nifty, though I do wonder about the 8G of RAM. I've a work-issued M1 Air with 8G, and it's fine for me but it's mostly running Outlook, Teams, and terminals to log into servers with a few Chrome tabs for looking at docs and such... How long until 8G isn't enough for general use?
@timmy As a former car tire tech, that makes me wary (ignore the fact that I'm rolling on bike tires and tubes that are factory original on my dad's 1993 Giant mountain bike...)
@operationpuppet Haven't read the actual wording of the law, but in theory is it good enough to require users be 18 to install Linux (Yes/No button in the installer), and then the API is either browser ID (showing it's running on Linux) or the fact that software is written for Linux (and thus will only be executed by 18+ users)?
I still think the age verification is stupid, so this line of thought is mostly geared towards malicious compliance...
@timmy I *think* we've finally gotten rid of our last one, we replaced them as they burned out... But every once in a while I find a non LED/CFL (We're replacing the CFLs as they die too...)
