Die Goethe-Universität trauert um Jürgen Habermas.

Am 14.3.2026 verstarb Jürgen Habermas in Starnberg – einer der bedeutendsten Philosophen des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts und prägender Vertreter der Frankfurter Schule.

Mit ihm verliert die Goethe-Universität einen der weltweit wichtigsten Denker und den zentralen Vertreter der Kritischen Theorie, die zurecht als „Frankfurter Schule“ bezeichnet wird.

I argue that Fricker's theory of hermeneutical injustice offers an alternative to classic theories of #ideology, but it lacks a sufficient analysis of power. There is an alternative materialist account of ideology that can take up its insights.

Social Norms and Obligation: Rescuing the Joint Commitment Account

In Morality and Socially Constructed Norms , Laura Valentini argues that moral obligations to respect social norms can be explained without invoking the concept of ‘joint commitment.’ Her resulting account is, in one important sense, individualistic, and therefore struggles to account for widely held intuitions about the normative significance of social norms. I argue that we can rescue the notion of joint commitment from Valentini’s objections, and incorporate it into a version of her account that preserves its insights.

New publication: "Oppressive Forms of Life" (#OpenAccess, https://doi.org/10.1080/14409917.2024.2329519). I develop an objection to Rahel Jaeggi's concept of "forms of life" as a basis of #ImmanentCritique: What a crisis of a form of life is, is partly a matter of interpretation. Oppressive forms of life exclude certain interpretations from the start. What would otherwise be a crisis, therefore never becomes visible.
