We prove that a variety of algebras whose finitely generated members are free must be definitionally equivalent to the variety of sets, the variety of pointed sets, a variety of vector spaces over a division ring, or a variety of affine vector spaces over a division ring.

The image description should of course say ‘noise-cancelling headphones’, not ‘nose-cancelling headphones’! 🤦🏻‍♀️

But I’d forgotten to check they were charged, and they powered off shortly after I took the selfie, rendering somewhat moot the question of what they were supposed to cancel

@creek @liaizon @Janetgunter The free-market capitalist idea of businesses having to *compete against* each other rather than *cooperate with* each other is a big part of the problem, even if some businesses will buck the trend occasionally

Cooperation is good

Competition can be exciting, but should be reserved for short-term, low-stakes games, not as a way of life
