TIL about the 2017 United Express passenger removal incident, where four paying customers were selected to be involuntarily deplaned. One passenger was injured when he was physically assaulted. It led to USDOT rules that protect passengers from removal or denial of boarding after check-in.

TIL that the inventor of lobotomy was awarded a Nobel Prize in medicine. Egas Moniz was also a duelist, medical school dean, member of parliament, ambassador and foreign minister. Once he was shot by a patient but survived. Moniz also authored many books, even one on the history of playing cards.

TIL the name "soccer" actually originates from Britain. Students at Oxford in the 1880s distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer”. In Britain it never became more than a nickname though.
