Transformational technologies like microcomputers and smartphones were so obviously useful that rank and file workers were smuggling them into their workflows despite the best efforts of CEOs to stop them.

The "transformational" technology of LLMs is so obviously anti-useful that CEOs must resort to threats and coercion to get their rank and file workers to go anywhere near them.

In today’s “terminology matters”:

❌ Return To Office policy: middle-management language that assumes “office” is a neutral position, we’re somehow “returning to”. This term has been carefully crafted by corporate strategists to sound as palatable as possible.

✅ Mandatory Commute policy: centers the outcome for workers - spending hours each day on an unpaid commute to and from the office just so we can be on video calls all day.

We don’t just have to accept hostile framing.

you trying to tell me that LibreOffice almost had the coolest looking mascot ever and they just said... no??? wtf??????

TIL Mercedes Benz deleted what3words functionality from all their cars.

This would be the same Mercedes Benz who ***invested*** in w3w.

And why did they disable the functionality? Didn’t wanna renew the licence.

Whichever way you read it it’s a shit show.

I have a piece in today’s Irish Times on the far right capture of social media and what this means for Europe: https://archive.is/uo3fu
@neil Thanks. Updated with link to report. Still worrying numbers.

“A PSNI report admitted that, over the past 14 years, it has applied for phone records of 323 Northern Ireland journalists and 500 lawyers.”

There are only 3,000 lawyers practicing in Northern Ireland.

@Frederik_Borgesius I hope it goes well and that you’ll be able to share a draft after the event.

Madcap CnaM age verification plans won't meet voters before the election.

Weakening #encryption will only help predators, criminals, blackmailers & scammers.

Since many service providers have stated that they will refuse to comply, this proposal will mean:

"The proposal is 'well-intentioned', but it sets a dangerous precedent. The fight against child sexual abuse must be fought with great force, but this is not the way."
