Been watching Liverpool from the Kop for over 40 years. I worked in IT and enjoy walking (football), cycling and scuba diving.
Doing my best with a large-ish garden
Wish we were still in the EU and our government wasn't corrupt

Walkers are Welcome Town - Otley

Otley, in the Wharfedale Valley, is a thriving historic market town with a population of fourteen thousand plus. It has a beautiful setting beside the River Wharfe, and below the wooded escarpment known as The Chevin. Otley is surrounded by spectacular countryside with an attractive riverside and many paths and rights of way leading out of Otley.

So Pret baristas will now be earning up to £14.10 an hour.

New NHS doctors - after their 5-year medical degree, whopping £80,000 of student debt, & life & death responsibilities - get paid £14.13 an hour.

And the government wonders why they're striking?

Pret A Manger gives staff third pay rise in a year

The coffee chain follows other retailers in boosting pay during a labour shortage.

BBC News

Our monthly BT bill (broadband and mobiles) is increasing by 14.4%, which they state is in line with the 10.5% CPI rate of inflation published in January, plus 3.9%

No reason or justification given, increasing profits presumably

What a time to be alive, with all our new technology. I just paid for a coffee with my watch! Now I don’t have a watch. Not sure I’m doing this right.
If you were a Twitterrific or Tweetbot user, you should download the latest versions of those apps from the App Store and launch them. Here’s why: https://daringfireball.net/2023/03/tweetbot_and_twitterrific_face_the_cliff
Tweetbot and Twitterrific Face the Cliff

There is something noble about two longtime rivals — competitors, yes, but with nothing but deep respect and camaraderie for each other — facing this terrible cliff together, with dignity and grace, considering their users first, as ever.

"If you are a subscriber to either Tweetbot or Twitterrific, I beseech you to decline these prorated refunds. It’s a couple of bucks for you, but in the aggregate, this amounts to an existential sum of *already booked revenue* for these two companies, both exemplars of the indie iOS and Mac community.

"Reinstall the app if you’ve already deleted it. Tap that ‘I Don’t Need a Refund’ button and feel good about it. We have a month. Spread the word.”

If you were a former paying customer of Tweetbot or Twitterrific who was happy with what they got out of the app before Twitter unceremoniously killed third-party clients, then consider launching the latest update and opting out of the refund. The money comes out of the developer's pockets, and the fact that the apps don't work anymore isn't really their fault—you can ease the load on them a bit. https://sixcolors.com/post/2023/03/tweetbot-and-twitterrific-updated-with-option-to-opt-out-of-subscription-refund/
Tweetbot and Twitterrific updated with option to opt-out of subscription refund

When Twitter shut down third-party clients in January, it not only left out in the cold the users of those apps, but the developers too. Many of those apps were significant sources of revenue for t…

I have a journey booked with Transpennine Express.
I received an email from them saying, "We are writing to let you know about upcoming strike action as you are booked to travel on a service that is now either cancelled or disrupted or you had booked to travel with us previously".

We are not travelling on a strike day and when I check engineering works I can't see anything relevant. Do they just send scattergun emails to get people to check?
They cancelled 46 services today, they're just awful

RT @OxfordDiplomat
Disturbingly politically blind. Brexiteer Steve Baker on @BBCRadio4 just said: “What an extraordinary opportunity for Northern Ireland: dual access to both markets.”

You mean the “extraordinary opportunity” that was available to the ENTIRE UK before Brexit. That opportunity?
