If you missed Ways of Hiding at Yell Out, you have another chance to see us this weekend at P'tit Ours, with a bunch of cool bands. Hope to see you there!

Ascending from my slumber and illness to make an announcement. I had to screenshot their weird movie poster, but come see Glass Dolls for Casa Fest this Sunday @ 8PM! In fact, come early if you can and have the time, because there are some sick acoustic sets, zine and writing ateliers, poetry readings, and jam sessions, starting at 5PM.

P.S: Retail Simps are also playing, but were not included in the poster I put up, for whatever reason.

First WoH performance of the year! We will be releasing some new material
I think I figured out whether I wanna go or not lol. The fuck
Thinking about WoH songs except interpreting them about ways to poop

#FunADay it’s starting to be more like FunAEveryOtherDay for me, but way she goes. Day 5 now, technically. I’m gonna stop complaining about the days I’ve missed after this, because you know what? I’ve had this book in my possession for months, and now I’ve almost entirely finished it in a few days. It’s almost like this works or something.

Martin Newell really likes talking about the 60s. I would say at least a third of this book is that. In that sense, the book gets a bit repetitive, where a lot of the same ideas keep coming up, and even more so, the same characters, like Andy Partridge of XTC here. But I dig that about the book, because I feel like a lot of autobiographies are famous people namedropping, and just saying way too much to make themselves sound interesting. Some of the greatest stories will have a few, well fleshed out characters, and in this one, you get the adventures of Martin Newell - a private guy, who was never much of a people person, had a couple friends who really inspired him musically, all the while, he was an integral part of pioneering DIY analog recording. What more do you need? I loved this anecdote about him recording with Andy Partridge, and gardening for him while he laid down drums.

#funaday I fucked up day 2 so it’s actually day 3, because band practice and I was tired after, so I caved and played The Witcher 3 instead. I’m just reading so it’s pretty minimal compared to what a lot of other people are doing, but it made me think about how tough it is to stay consistent with anything…for me at least, it’s really the story of my life. But as all things, I think it’s always about the act of doing the thing. And if you fuck up, like I did, I encourage other people to continue! Do the thing. You’ll be happier to do it than give up, like I considered doing up until now.

I don’t really know how to give book updates, other than give spoilers. This was a fun excerpt though, Martin Newell talking/joking about checking his privilege and how Scott Joplin never got his due. He is a bit angsty about it, and as amazing as his wisdom is throughout this book so far, it’s the classic situation of reading a bio of an old guy. But also, it gives you what you asked for, in a sense, because you chose to talk to the old guy and now you’re getting punished by him. Fuckin’ deal with it!
