Why hadn't I ever seen the inside of a datacenter during my Tumblr days?

I had fun writing this answer. A little bit of Tumblr history.

Because the best way to grow an RSS reader is the same way RSS itself works - one person tells another person about something good, no algorithm required. https://blog.newsblur.com/2026/03/26/refer-and-gift/

Transcripts in Overcast!

This was so much work. I can't believe I've finally gotten it into beta.

Not every website has an RSS feed. Now that doesn't matter. Web Feeds is a new NewsBlur feature that turns any website into a live RSS feed. Point it at a URL, and it figures out the rest.

Adventures In Posting:

Doing a series of videos on 1 topic on YouTube gets hairy, bc each video has to stand on its own. If you call a video "Part X in a Series on Y" ... nobody clicks on that.

So on Patreon it's "part 2 of How Farming Became Conservative." And on YT it's "Why Farmers Keep Getting Older"/"Stop Doing Young Farmers Dirty."

Anyway once it's up on YT I'll post the link here as well.

that is not what cancel means

I would never travel to a country that required this of me unless it was absolutely necessary.

I can’t blame anyone for making the same decision once this comes to pass.

(And it’s inevitable. Even if this particular version doesn’t happen, it’ll happen. We’ve been heading down this road for a while.)

I feel for anyone in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, which make up ~ 10M jobs and ~ 3 percent of the nation's GDP. From the U.S. International Trade Administration (trade.gov)

"Inbound international travel to the United States plays a vital role in the Nation’s economy and promotes cultural exchange and understanding. Travel and tourism is the largest single services export for the United States, accounting for 22 percent of the country’s services exports and 7 percent of all exports in 2023. The travel and tourism industry contributed $2.3 trillion to the U.S. economy in 2022 (2.97 percent of the country’s GDP), supporting 9.5 million jobs."
