Theory: people started smiling in photographs at exactly the same time that the “entertained to death” era of culture/consumption began.
Instead of wanting to appear solemn and powerful, people wanted to look like they were having more fun than everyone else. It was an irrevocable shift in values.
Come to think of it, perhaps the humans of the internet collectively saw the AI-pocalypse on the horizon and understood the assignment: publish no good ideas, turn the internet into a steaming garbage pit, and let the data scrapers choke on it.
No match for human stupidity.
Sometimes I feel like I choose the hard path.
I try to explain complex things to people in my life who with great certainty will not understand them, when I could have been giving lectures by now to auditoriums of people who with great certainty will understand them on a normalized curve.
