The SBD of the 10/9/72 #gratefuldead show is really worth your time. Its mix is album worthy, there’s the benefit of a relaxed hometown show, it’s one of the last perfect recordings of Fall ’72, and, IMO, there’s a large slab of great playing and singing within it.
My take on the show’s highlights:

Every China > Rider / Day 206 / [1/2]
1969.09.30 Early - New York, NY
We made it :) The first China > Rider. Also first Rider since August '67. Audio quality lacking, but at least we have it. Missing Intro and part of 1st verse of China Cat. Exciting, hard-driving Transition for any era, though short. As an archive.org commenter notes, start of Rider sounds Greatest Story-ish. Great post Wild Geese jam. No Headlight. Now covered every year China > Rider appeared, save one.
Some September #gratefuldead of note: Paris 1974. The tapes are hard, because Weir’s guitar is barely there - and that really screws the music up. However, Save Your Face pulled aside the passages that are nonetheless amazing and/or more Weir-present.
Essentially, all the big jam numbers and Seastones - in full ’74 glory.

Ok so intense #GratefulDead content follows - digging into the new box set.
Nothing good can be said about the art, so nothing will be said.
The big question has been: can this actually improve the sound relative to the existing free tapes of these shows, which are superb? And my answer is, for the first show at least, yes. But subtly so, some may actually prefer the free tape, particularly in headphones. It is louder, with more immediate punch, and it's certainly good enough.
But... 🧵
An observation of mine, not proven out by any sort of scientific means, is that Dead shows containing Baby Blue are, on average, excellent shows.
