My kid crushed her #cosplay at SacAnime this weekend. She did so much of it herself from woodworking to sewing and was super proud.
Tons of great reactions too.
(She was Zanka from Gachiakuta and got to meet the voice actor).

Beezus was probably born feral and never interacted with humans until we caught her and her kittens. She was skittish and very wary when they first came to us.
I had an inkling she might come around when we took her to the vet the first time and she would reluctantly accept being pet while confined in her carrier.
Six months later she has become a total cuddlebug and is trying to make up for lost time getting affection from humans.
3 of 5 kittens in the latest batch adopted and just when feel like you're getting ahead, another feral mom with 4 more turns up.
Know anyone in Northern California looking for a new friend?

(First two are from Dolly’s litter still looking for homes, second two are from the new group, available soon)
The finished plaque. I didn’t know Matt, he was one of my wife’s colleagues, but I found this build emotional.
Lots of new techniques and trial and error but worth the effort.
First plaque out of the acid etch. I was very worried the text would lose detail but I think it came out great.
Just need to repaint the etched areas, sand off the top layer, and clean up the surface (probably going to go for a brushed finish).
I offered to make a memorial plaque for a friend on my laser cutter. I’ve had a lot of difficulty since the metal marking spray didn’t hold up to light abrasion.
I tried electrochemical etching but it wasn’t consistent enough (but I’ll use it for small marks in the future).
Finally landed on spray painting on the whole thing, lasering the design off, etch in muriatic acid, then clean up and repaint the design.
Iterative experimentation can be frustrating but interesting.
Finished another clock today. Here’s some pics of the inside too. Sadly I won’t have time to finish the third that I wanted to get done this holiday, but I’ll get it in the mail to the recipient soon.
Finished the clock in time for the gift exchange.
And here’s the version I’ll use (lower right square of four letters).
It’s a white acrylic used for diffusing lighting (thanks to Professional Plastics in West Sac for help figuring out the right material). Sealed in with some UV resin with a touch of white dye mixed in.
The pic is brighter than the real thing will be because I’m using a flashlight to test and it’s much brighter than the LEDs but I’m very happy with that result.
