Over on Twitter people are speculating as to why Americans don't fight back the way the French do.

They're all forgetting that in 2020, tens of thousands of people did fight back, many of whom are doing prison time.

Don't forget those people, supporting them plants the seeds of future revolts.

This isn't being shared here yet, so I'll go ahead and post because this story is important, but -

Eden needs justice. We need to hold the people behind this accountable, and we need to bring her story to light. #justiceforeden #boost #transphobia #help

In bill HB4378, Texas has essentially released a bounty on drag.

This would offer a $5,000 bounty for hunters if a person performs while "exhibiting a gender that is different from gender recorded at birth" and "violates the community standards of decency."

This intentionally vague bill
could easily be turned against trans performers. It could even ban a trans person singing karaoke and possibly even pride altogether.

This bill defines drag as "a performance in which a performer exhibits a gender that is different than the performer's gender recorded at birth using clothing, makeup, or other physical markers and sings, lip syncs, dances, or otherwise performs in a lascivious manner before an audience.”

Another section of this bill “LIABILITY FOR DRAG PERFORMANCE IN PRESENCE OF MINOR,” states that an individual who attends a drag performance as a minor may bring an action against anyone who participates as a performer in a drag performance, including people who promoted it or conducted it.

Anti-LGBTQ & anti-trans legislature is sweeping the nation in almost every state, currently with 391 proposed anti-LGBTQ bills nationwide. At the moment, there are 40 states that have proposed anti-trans bills, with at least 68 that have been signed into law. There is only one language our politicians understand. There has to be consequences to their fascist behavior. It is crucial that people understand the importance of this fight. This is a full on war against trans people. All of these bills being proposed and even advancing are an elimination of recognition and a limitation on access to care for ALL trans people. These laws are not only to ensure entire groups of people have no rights, they want to eliminate queer & trans people entirely. This is genocide.

I love the term "software archaeology" because it implies the existence of subfields such as "software experimental archaeology" (attempting to reconstruct and demonstrate how people once built software) and "software paleoethnobotany" (quantifying what botanicals were culturally significant to software and the broader historic implications to the societies that wrote it), but also the existence of the broader field "software anthropology" and its offshoot "software sociology", and
Unfortunate place for a wasps nest.
If you take comfort from the fact that these systems are aimed at “awful crimes” or “will be fully transparent”, please don’t. The nature of these proposals is that they will be easy to reprogram, either by law or by technical accident.

BEGGING people to pay attention to these ID verification laws. They’re using “protecting children” as cover and starting with age verification for (poorly defined) obscenity. But the end goal is to completely ban anonymity on the internet.

Gov. Sanders wants you to show ID to use Twitter

Gov. Sarah Sanders held a press conference on Thursday to announce the filing of a bill that would require Arkansans to provide identification to use social media sites. Framed as a necessary step to protect minors from the harmful effects of social media, the bill would require the likes of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube to contract with a third-party system to verify that users are 18 or have consent from parents or guardians to use the sites.

The calls for detecting “grooming behavior”. If you wonder what that means, here is a brief description. Roughly it means developing new AI tools that can understand the content of textual conversations and can automatically report you to the police based on them.
The legislation is vague about how this will be accomplished, but the “impact assessment” it cites is not. The assessment makes clear that mandatory scanning of images & text, especially in encrypted data, is the only solution the Commission will consider.
