Wife is away visiting family and friends, so the the dog and I went hiking all weekend. 6 miles on Saturday and 5.5 on Sunday. We're both moving a little slow this morning.

Mandy Jenkins has been such a wonderful connector of so many people in our community. Please help or amplify if you can.

Iโ€™ve been doing this media gig for 25 years and this round of layoffs has me feeling very anxious. I want to say itโ€™s about the general economy and โ€œloomingโ€ recession, but honestly, I feel like itโ€™s 2008 and the C-suite just hasnโ€™t learned a single lesson and has no idea how to relate to its audience and deliver products to consumers. We have to do better at delivering products our consumers will engage with. Weโ€™re doomed otherwise, regardless of what Wall Street says.

If I've met you, worked with you or learned from you โ€” you've played a huge part in my next journey and I can't wait to share it with you. Thanks everyone, and I'll see you soon.

๐Ÿšจ Like a lot of others โ€” some personal news.

Today is my last day at Gannett. It's been quite the strange journey to get here. I started in 2006 at an NYT Regional paper and survived sale after sale after sale until the Gannett merger.

I will be starting my dream job soon โ€” it is quite literally my dream job โ€” and a release will be going out soon.

( ๐Ÿ‘€ I can't believe I'm Press Release worthy ๐Ÿ‘€ )

So @kissane said it better and I'd QT if I could but seriously Medium has dropped more strategic directions than you would believe and each time they leave real people in the lurch so like migrate to their masto server with caution.
Hear me out . . . Maybe, just maybe, we should invest in infrastructure and software updates for aging systems. That would be a good use of my tax dollars. I like roads and bridges being where they should be, and flights to being on time.
Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Gorillaz, Weyes Blood, Charlie XCX and BLONDIE! I kind of want to go to Coachella now, you know, except for the being old and the pandemic.
