@smveerman the fact that it has taken this long for NS/SNCB to offer a connection between Brussels/Antwerp/Rotterdam/Amsterdam that is time competitive with the way too expensive Thalys is kind of embarrassing.

This is unambiguously good, especially after the nonsense of required reservations this summer. One wrinkle though is connections to Amsterdam centraal will now require a transfer via metro.

@cshentrup Amaterdam’s system of quotas by neighborhood and a lack of ability to get on waiting lists without a car create a semi-private entry point that creates a cost hump on parking in the first months/years of ownership and although not market rate has almost no areas of free parking left.

Not all of the way there but it’s a good start!

@wsslmn @fietsprofessor when reading this I immediately assumed that it would likely require approval of some form in Den Haag.

Amsterdam is “looking with interest” at plans in Paris to charge higher parking fees for larger and heavier cars. The French city feels that SUVs are taking up too much space, and Amsterdam faces similar problems. “Public space is scarce, and it is not a bad idea to ask for a larger contribution for cars that take up more space,” Amsterdam’s traffic alderman Melanie van der Horst told NRC.
