I've been online longer than the World Wide Web.
I like to play music and prefer flow to ebb.

Incarnated as a human in California in the late 20th Century.
Wanderin through Saṃsāric rings of hell while writin rhymes if not poetry.

Honestly?
I prefer herbal tisanes to caffeinated tea.

Still seekin a quiet peaceful place to just be.
Ideally?
Alone from noises and pollution caused by others, entirely.

A lot of people were celebrating the anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing.

Yet, who is celebrating Gil Scott-Heron's "Whitey on the Moon"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otwkXZ0SmTs

I have lost count of how many moon missions in the public and private sector are currently underway, wasting inordinate amounts of time, money, energy, when we already know that the Moon is incapable of sustaining life as we know it.

Given how many humans are homeless, struggling with food scarcity, driving other species to extinction, maybe humans aren't too stupid to stop wasting resources on the Moon? Maybe, the powers that be want to make Earth as inhospitable to life as we know it as the Moon is?

I am not among them. We should stop ignoring our artists and start making this planet a better place to live, lest we infect the solar system and stars elsewhere with our maladies.

Peter Thiel was CEO of PayPal when they acquired fincom startup X.com and with it Elon Musk.

Peter Thiel was the first outside investor in Facebook and was on the Board when Cambridge Analytica exploited that platform to spread targeted disinformation in the 2016 election.

Peter Thiel was a member of the transition team in 2016-2017 for the incoming administration.

Peter Thiel invested in and co-founded Narya Capital with J. D. Vance, who two years later won a Senate seat.

This is beyond repugnant journalism.

Literally the day Senate GOP blocks 3 bills to protect the freedom to cross state lines for abortion care, protect doctors in states where abortion is legal from prosecution for providing services to out of state patients, & support more abortion care training—NYT publishes this propaganda piece praising GOP for becoming moderate on abortion.😐

Women and infants are literally dying due to GOP extremism, and Legacy media continues to fail us. SMH

Mastodon is all grown up to the extent that every morning I am reporting ~10 new followers as spam. *Wipes tear*

That Trac ticket someone opened in MacPorts re: DSA key support turned off in OpenSSH 9.8p1 keeps going.

I still don't have spoons to re-engage after the last time I responded.

A part of me was halfway tempted to just make a variant to shut them up, but then I remembered: no grey, that isn't going to do anyone who fails to understand security challenges any favors, & also you haven't slept or eaten in a while.

#AaronSwartz killed himself because he scraped research data and they aggressively prosecuted him.

Now #AI companies say they should scrape our data for free.

Blockbuster reporting from @molly0xfff on the staggering scale of the cryptocurrency money that is pouring into political campaigns.

Cash is flowing from insiders (e.g. investors, founders) who seem to fear that the feds will properly regulate this beyond-sleazy industry.

This is a massive scandal that's been all but ignored by Big Journalism. It implicates Democrats and Republicans alike, and it is leading, ultimately, to financial catastrophe.

/me is chuckling to himself about there being a Mastodon instance of English speaking expats in Japan named after famichiki (the transliterated portmanteau of ファミリーマート「famirī māto」『Family Mart』 chicken) what a name. Tempting! Alas, I am not currently in Japan and I am vegan, but still, promisingly hilarious.

Meanwhile, though I haven't been terribly active on the FediVerse in over a month, for reasons that escape me there seems to be a rather irate OpenSSH MacPorts user complaining about OpenSSH's DSA deprecation.

That drama is being aired publicly in MacPorts' Trac, and I am low on spoons to want to look at it presently, but my general takeaway was:

"uhh, upstream announced DSA keys being deprecated, a really long time ago. They have given notes about it going away entirely in 2025, I am really having trouble understanding why this is my problem."

If only people with that much energy would complain as vociferously to Tim Cook et al about removing headphone jacks, maybe tech wouldn't be so full of it.sh right now? But even if that's my opinion, I am not clogging Apple's bug tracking systems with it.

Maybe, someday, I'll get back to running my own infra; but y'know, I kind of feel as if I did my due diligence in such realms before the World Wide Web even existed and others have paid me pretty pennies (alas too few) to run infra for Fortune 1 types of company's online presence in the past, and I don't want the on-call 24x7 nightmare right now, even if I would appreciate the income.

Besides, we all know that I would run @grunfink' snac instead of mainline Mastodon if running my own ActivityPub implementation.

Despite a high pain threshold and endurance for seemingly endless amounts of BS, I am unequivocally, not a masochist.
