Google's search got worse because they got their money from ads and good results reduced how many ads people saw. Now they are pivoting to AI because they hope to make money on that someday somehow but it's so expensive to operate that they have to stuff it with ads to bridge from now until that imaginary future.
All three of these things are awful because one company is abusing dominance in one area to subsidize the others. If Google were broken up into a search company, an ad company, and an AI company all three would be better. But capitalism ruins all three.
