Explosion and fire at Mission gas station sends smoke plume over S.F.

A fire struck a Shell gas station in the Mission District on Monday afternoon, rocking neighbors' homes and sending a thick, black plume of smoke across the neighborhood. It was unclear if anyone was injured. Firefighters were on the scene. Emma Silvers, a journalist with Coyote Media who lives near the 16th and Guerrero gas station, said she heard an explosion a little after 4:30 p.m., and thought it was an earthquake.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. Sometimes a not-so-great week can be turned around with a sunny 65° San Francisco day and channeling your inner child (and adult self too): A dose of spring color, Andytown’s iced coffee, a bike ride, a kids chicken tenders meal, the ocean, parks x 3, people watching from the F, and public art ☀️💕 lucky to call this place home

A reminder of what the Bay looked like before environmental regulation—open dumping of industrial waste, raw sewage, and fuel, and constant oil spills.

Before EPA and laws like the Clean Water Act, America's waters were choked with pollution. Ohio's Cuyahoga River, which became a symbol of environmental degradation in the 60s, was so polluted that it repeatedly caught fire.

Today, it's estimated that the #CleanWaterAct alone prevents 700 *billion* pounds of toxic pollution from entering US waters every single year.

We MUST defend these vital laws and institutions.
