@Alex_D I don’t consider myself a writer so I’ll suggest an opinion as an avid reader. Is the direction relevant or does it provide necessary context? What is observed is always within the field of vision. If the observation is third person, the important factor may be the feeling evoked rather than the proximity. “Jeremy fondly noticed the crude table nearby.” “The crude table on Jeremy’s left posed an obstacle.”
