A big win for GGWash, ANCs, and free speech: BEGA has reversed its stance that trainings we sought to hold for newly elected commissioners constituted illegal gifts.: https://ggwash.org/view/97556/were-allowed-to-train-ancs-now-thanks-to-the-first-amendment

ooof.

i admittedly (and perhaps obviously) don't use this thing much, but i guess i'm glad i happened to check in here when i did.

update tk once i figure out what the hell i'm doing (or not) with this info, but obvs soon.

As it rains, five days after the election, for the first time in the five weeks since I ordered these signs, I'm sure glad I made sure to get them done on waterproof stock 🙄
Seattle DOT director Greg Spotts notes the need to think about streets along the edge of a park and whether they support the park's purpose. By turning a fast, noisy slip lane that slingshots drivers into Green Lake into a barrier-protected 2-way bike lane, the change reduced noise and the traffic effect of SR99 at that spot. Much more parklike.

We’re teaming up with the Institute for Justice to make it possible to exercise our freedom of speech--by offering trainings for ANCs.: https://ggwash.org/view/97037/were-asking-dc-to-obey-the-first-amendment
We’re asking DC to follow the First Amendment

In 2023, we organized trainings for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners. The District government called them an illegal gift—but that local law is unconstitutional, and we’re asking officials to change it.

As a longtime @GGWash reader (like, since before I moved to DC, seriously) and supporter, I am grateful, proud, and delighted to be not just endorsed but called "a top-notch choice" for ANC 1B03.

Our 2024 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner endorsements in Ward 1

Here’s who Greater Greater Washington is endorsing for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner seats in Ward 1.

ballot order is proven to matter for election results, especially small/low-info races, so many places hold a lottery to make sure it's random.

DC's was today; the results are posted at https://dcboe.org/elections/2024-elections

.

things you love to see: your name in #1 position on your ballot order list.

wow.

I still remember when Pitt's response to staff asking for help making campus roads safer—to one of our own being killed in the shadow of the Cathedral—was "the university has bike racks throughout the campus [and[ encourages car-pooling…"

Congrats to all involved in moving this very large, heavy needle!
