@petergleick Well the cato institute isn't really conservative socially. They are very much libertarian both economically and socially.
@gwynnion It's mostly the constant effort to place identity above literally everything else. We can talk about various social issues, but personal finances are more important to most people. The entire world is like that. A prime example is my 21 year old sister. She wasn't happy about roe, but she is more impacted by the fact that rents are fucking double what they were when she was trying to move out after high-school. But the democrats only want to talk about roe with her.
@steter @GottaLaff We will probably not ever get higher turnout than we did in 2020. Many people were forced out of a job, school, hobbies, and other activities. And states made mail-in, and early voting alot more mainstream. 2024 is the first "normal" election. Hopefully, trump spends his time playing golf.
@GottaLaff People can't afford things under biden, and things feel crazy in general. They want to return to normal. It doesn't matter if trump can do it or not, they think he can.
@LabourHub Why do trade unions concern themselves with foreign policy? I have no idea how this helps unions. All it does is make them seem more ideological and not pragmatic. That is one of the reasons that unions fell out of fashion here in the US.
@ErickaSimone Why do you think it was written in bad faith? Also, why do you think that Biden backing down means that Haris can't rise?
@ErickaSimone Popular vote doesn't matter. Hillary lost the race that mattered in 2016. Biden only won by like 100000 votes or something like that. And if it wasn't for Trump fucking up covid real bad, he would still be president. Biden is also losing every swing state in all of the polls currently. That is why Trump felt confident picking Vance as his vp, cause Vance doesn't help in an electoral way. So no. Either Biden gets his shit together, or backs down.
@ech @gentrifiedrose @kcarruthers Bro, don't worry about it. Yes Republicans tend to be racist, and we saw a couple wackjobs freak. Most Republicans aren't racist enough to give a shit on what race their politicians are. People love to say "Anyone who disagrees with me is a certified klansman." When in reality racism comes in degrees, like sexism, antisemitism, and homophobia.
@djm What do you expect when the basics are way more expensive, and wages are stagnant. People latch onto the first thing that makes sense to them. And there is truth to the fact that immigrants need housing like everyone else. With the housing crisis the way it is, it might be faster to deport people than it is to build sufficient housing.
@jeffjarvis It's not looking good either way right now. Biden is behind in all of the polls, so he needs to make his case to the people. And his health is getting in the way of that. Biden is actually doing so badly that, as of now, the "generic Democrat" is being dragged down in swing districts. The DNC basically told everyone to stay out of the primary system, so we couldn't get a decent replacement. And, an undemocratic nomination will just look bad as you said. So this is the result.
