Badly designed doors on an LG refrigerator. The fact that users felt the need to add signs to the door is indicative of bad design. Don Norman wrote a book called “The Design of Everyday Things” with an entire section on badly designed doors. We have learned nothing! (At least, LG hasn’t.)
I’m such a nerd. I went grocery shopping at a different store today (Safeway). The parking is on the roof, so I took the elevator down. The elevator buttons show the parking area “P” on the roof, the grocery shopping area with the Safeway “S” logo on the ground floor, and I guess if you go to the basement you can find Diffie-Hellman there.

A shirt from the good old days, when corporate swag had high quality fabric with an embroidered logo. This one is a long-sleeved shirt with the Solaris logo.

It is now Meteorological Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and wildflowers are in bloom! Unfortunately, this is a picture of our front lawn.
Turns out that Better World Books had a copy of Peter Naur’s “Computing: A Human Activity” which contains the article “Programming as Theory Building”. It arrived today. Yay! https://mastodon.social/@stuartmarks/116129932739467965

“Jäger fries” from Ludwig’s Biergarten in Mountain View. Mushroom sauce, gruyere, and green onions. Not bad, I’d have them again. I give them credit for a pretty good variation on the usual cheese fries. Ludwig’s is about as German as it gets in California: several different Würste, beef Gulasch, Schweinshaxe (!), and several different kinds of Schnitzel — including vegan. And a selection of German beers, of course. (From October; I forgot to post it then.)

Pepperidge Farm Holiday Nog cookies. Just like a regular shortbread cookie with a hint of nutmeg. Frankly they were disappointing. /cc @jerrykuch
Tonight’s dinner. Vegetable stir fry with Thai red curry, Pad Kra Pao (ground chicken with Thai basil), and two kinds of rice.

Tonight’s dinner: chili, perfect for a blustery and slightly rainy northern Autumn day. I mostly followed the recipe in the video linked below, but I used canned beans for convenience and ground turkey because my family doesn’t eat beef. I think the key technique is toasting the dried chilis and blending them into a paste. Served with tortilla chips, diced onions, shredded cheese, corn bread, and a side of heartburn medication.
