Bit of foraging this morning after a neighbour employed a tree surgeon to deal with a dying oak - and they just left anything that had no commerical value or couldn’t go in the chipper. That’s about a months-worth of firewood for us; should take about a year to dry.

Just hit some of these with the big splitting axe, and they told me to fuck off. Think I’ll need to cut them to size for burning…

Tonight I’m mainly burning apple wood that I cut last year and air dried on a south facing wall. Moisture content c12-15%, and going well - smaller limbs don’t last long but I was able to cut about 5 tonnes before they burned the whole field, so…🤷‍♂️

I’m not entirely clear what’s going on over on twitter just now, but let’s just say I’m thinking of tossing my blue tick on the fucking bonfire..

This is the best thing about winter and our house (apart from the warm, cuddly thing who’s shared my bed for the past 35 years). Loading it up ready for a full afternoon in front of the rugby tomorrow.
It was as almost as much fun renovating our retirement home as it is sitting in front of the fire and I get to use a chainsaw!! We haven’t had the central heating on since April.

Some pics from my cheeky little 45km solo ride yesterday - there was sausage roll with my name on it at halfway. Lovely open roads and not a single close pass!
