Blog: Some Benefits of Enabling Compact Object Headers in Java 25 for Streams

There are signs. You just have to learn how to look for and read them.

Some Benefits of Enabling Compact Object Headers in Java 25 for Streams

Compact object headers will hopefully become a default feature in Java.

I've talked to ~100 developers across a wide range of organisations over the last 6 months about what they're *really* doing with "AI" coding assistants.

I wouldn't worry about being "left behind". On software that matters, most folks are barely using it at all. And, so far, nobody I've spoken to is doing any of that advanced "agentic" stuff in their day jobs.

Presumably because there are big potential consequences if their software breaks or leaks data.

Seeing more and more people warning of the danger of comprehension debt. It seems so obvious, and yet it's taken us several years to see it.

The AI-Ready Software Developer #10 – Comprehension Debt

In my previous post, I talked about the need to recognise when an “AI” coding assistant is circling the event horizon of a “doom loop” and take the wheel. Taking the wheel, …

A fascinating study of OSS developers found that, while they *reported* significant productivity gains (+20%) using "A.I." coding assistants, the reverse was actually true (-19%).

CASE, 4GLs, Offshoring, Low/No-Code etc. How many times are we gonna fall for this *feeling*?

Even if the AI hype falls flat, it leads to increased emissions at a time when the world can't afford them at all.
