Just saw the new #Ruby web site. It looks nicer than the previous but something—I can’t quite put my finger on it—tells me that Ruby is now all but officially the Rails language. Which is a shame because Ruby is a great general purpose language. It could’ve been an awesome CLI language. It could've been a great data processing language. It's OK to put nebulous and abstract things like happiness and beauty before other things but not acknowledging any of the practical aspects leaves it for taking by outside forces.

It also clings to MINASWAN and puts Dave right next to Matz. 🙈 🙉 🙊

🌸 Here’s your State of Hanami for 2025.

We took our first steps into a new era: we made a substantial release, began unifying our ecosystem, launched our sponsorship program, and saw a real uptick in community activity.

Read all about it! https://hanamirb.org/blog/2025/12/22/state-of-hanami-december-2025/

State of Hanami, December 2025

Everything we did in 2025, and our plans for 2026.

Hanami

I wrote a new blog post about how to get #Hanami to work smoothly with a dockerized local development Postgres database:

https://ruby-heretic.com/posts/2025/11/using-postgres-in-docker-with-hanami/

Using Postgres in Docker with Hanami

I have started to move my database dependencies into Docker, because this makes it so mach easier and cleaner to deal with different database versions for different applications. To get this to work as smoothly as possible with Hanami, I have written down this step by step guide, so you can follow along at home.

Ruby Heretic

This is our first release of a new era — courtesy of our patrons and their financial support.

Thank you @sidekiq, @baweaver, @honeybadger, @FastRuby, and @appsignal! Hanami 2.3 truly couldn’t have happened without you.

We’d love for you to join them and help us take Hanami to the next level. https://sponsor.hanamirb.org

We are thrilled to announce Zensical, our next-gen static site generator that addresses and overcomes the technical limitations of MkDocs

Thanks to @afomera for speaking up. We cannot tolerate hateful leaders or our community turns into that Nazi bar. Solidarity means supporting each other, no matter what we look like.

Stop Giving Harm a Microphone by Andrea Fomera "But still, it’s caused me to want to withdraw myself and disengage in the communities I found purpose and belonging in. This is a direct consequence of giving microphones and amplifying the behavior of people who post their “opposing views” online and engage in bad faith arguments." https://afomera.dev/posts/2025-10-25-stop-giving-harm-a-microphone
