designer who codes at Rewind.ai. Previously designed at Twitter for 9 years. I generally talk about tech, design and code here.

the main thing stopping me from hosting my own mastodon instance.. not sure what domain to use. .social? .com? (I like having that one redirect to my site) .design?

feels a bit long to be [email protected] but probably what I'm leaning towards. i worry that user search would not work well if my username wasn't stammy and people first tried searching for that?

Everything about this product is geek bait. Like I know that it’s crazy to spend $100+ on a plastic crate for storing my gear, but my wallet just wants to come out of my pocket on its own the more I scroll. https://sidiocrate.com/
SIDIOCRATE

SIDIOCRATE Combines the Sidio Divider System with the versatility and toughness of a Milk Crate in one. Dividers protect items during movie and transit. Keep things neatly in place and organized in the SIDIOCRATE.

Product idea:

A $99 waterproof Remarkable-like eInk tablet with a suction cup made for your shower thoughts.

Doesn’t need to have any features beyond letting you draw/write on 1-2 pages and then send it to yourself.

Call it something like “Tile”

Apps used to be actually usable and helpful. This is Culture Code's Things back in the day running on Mac OS X Leopard.
• Visible title bars make it easy to see where you can hold to draw the window
• Apps had character and playfulness to make them approachable
• Icons embraced colors which helps with "muscle memory"
• Empty states were useful with nice descriptions of what that view is for (and were dismissible)
• They embraced hierarchical toolbars/bottom bars.

I've really been enjoying https://www.kubera.com/ as a replacement for Personal Capital the past few weeks.

I particularly like how I can separate out accounts into 'Sheets' — so my IRAs/etc don't get mixed up in my Robinhood silly money. Oh, and shout out to having a keyboard command for screenshots!

If you're looking for something targeted at investments and not transactions, definitely give it a go.

Kubera – The World's Most Modern Wealth Tracker

Stock & Crypto Portfolio Tracker. DeFi, NFTs, Funds, Bonds, Homes, Cars, Metals and more. International bank & brokerage accounts. Supports all currencies.

A reminder: Just like Twitter, the value of your experience here is based heavily on who you follow (or don’t). Take time to seek out accounts of people who share knowledge, experience, views, pointers, news… whatever you want to know/read more about. Follow people if they keep coming up in your feed.

Don’t view following as a permanent action. Trial various accounts. It’s ok to sample them for a while, then unfollow if they post too often or about topics you don’t find interesting.

I have been using Feedbin for a few years now ( https://paulstamatiou.com/hello-rss/ ) but mainly via their website, as I didn't like their official app or Reeder. But I just realized NetNewsWire can sync to Feedbin (among other services) 🙌
Hello, RSS

It has been years since I’ve used RSS to keep tabs on interesting blogs I’ve found and websites I like. I've started using Feedbin to subscribe to sites and email news...

what would be perfect is a mini soundbar meant for the desktop. something i can rest on my display stand, ideally uses usb-c PD power and is a decent speaker + mic for meetings.

HomePod 2nd generation is out https://www.apple.com/homepod-2nd-generation/

All i want to do with them is pair and use as dedicated computer speakers without any lag or having to constantly reconnect airplay.

HomePod (2nd generation)

High-fidelity audio. Intelligent assistant. Home hub that works across devices. HomePod is a powerhouse speaker with the privacy of Apple built in.
