@tobyhede even Amazon Prime doesn’t get the right. Those are the hard problems of streaming.
@jamigibbs And I hope that pilots actually have the courage to call in sick. And don't show up for work just because they're afraid of losing their job if they're sick.
@tobyhede You are certainly right with the “in theory” part.
@mattwynne Looks similar to how I describe my preferred PR process. With the difference that I leave it to the PR author to decide how many approvals they need to feel confident, might be 1, might be 0, might be that they want all peers to agree.
@tobyhede Like when robots replaced workers in factories? I'm sure the super rich will find a new way to exploit the poor.
@falcennial Once a friend once told me that she viewed Germany's extensive social welfare system as a kind of insurance that protects citizens from theft and robbery. There's something to that.
@jamigibbs I wouldn't be surprised if you got a different answer when today was a Thursday.
@dgoodlad The tragedy is that creativity and innovation does not correlate to the availability of financial resources. Most companies bullshitting around once they are the market leader. Look at Twitter, Apple, Facebook, or Dropbox. They didn't delivery any really important innovation for a decade, Most products would be better if such companies stopped updating their products at some point.
@baweaver I would argue that a Principal Engineer should be trusted at the same level as a Director. Both roles have different focus, but their responsibilities overlap and their scope is basically the same. And what people usually forget, leading as a Principal is usually harder as for Directors, because people on the IC track are usually lacking authority. Try having impact as a Principal without being able to tell people what to do, only by convincing them, your reputation or with facts.

@jamigibbs Yes, he fully recovered. I hope your dad is doing well too.

For me as a German, it is just shocking how expensive healthcare in the US is, and that insurances do not cover those costs in most cases.
