You gotta understand that this state, is founded on a revolution against a US-backed monarchy. Iran has had to answer the question "what if the Americans attack us" every single day of its entire modern existence.

Whatever you feel about that government is your business, but you'd be making a mistake if you thought they weren't built for precisely this fight and to whatever degree is possible, willing to prosecute it to the bitter end - for one of us. Their state was FOUNDED on that idea.

People on /r/AskSF: should l live in this <totally normal neighborhood>

People responding: anything that’s not on the west side is super unsafe, beware

Breaking the ICE: Lessons from the Resistance in Minnesota

A Countrywide Speaking Tour

https://crimethinc.com/breakicetour

In April, anarchists from the Twin Cities who have participated in resisting the ICE occupation there will travel the country sharing their experiences. At each presentation, they will discuss what they have learned from building rapid response networks, explore how Minnesota thwarted Operation Metro Surge, and draw out lessons about how to defeat fascism.

Three different touring groups will carry out concurrent tours covering the Midwest, the East Coast, and the West Coast, for a total of two dozen events.

You can find the tour schedule here.

Got my performance review today.
Positive feedback: literally every member of my team says I'm the best manager they have ever had. I solved multiple long-standing problems the team has been dealing with for years. Team members feel safe to share their struggles, everyone feels empowered, everyone receives valuable feedback.
Negative feedback: I am not enthusiastic enough about AI.
Overall ranking: 3/5.

Anyone hiring for a fully remote team lead?

Substack platforms Nazis for profit. They defend their right to profit by disseminating Nazi ideas and they push Nazi ideas in their notifications.
(I just think a lot of people must be unaware or they wouldn't look for information there)

@xgranade Every time someone says cars offer freedom, I like to ask them what happens if they stop paying the loan or the lease or the insurance or if they stop doing maintenance or if gas is $10 a gallon or if they can't park somewhere or if they're stuck at home without it.

When I lived in New York, all I needed to go somewhere was my shoes, my Metrocard, and maybe a coat.

The surveillance-obsessed/anti-privacy "intelligence" establishments in *all* governments are so fucking stupid and constantly shooting themselves (or at least the national interests & people they're supposed to be protecting) in the foot.

Same as the Chinese hack of US phone system backdoors.

Same as parents putting spyware on their children's devices.

Invading/weakening the privacy of your own people will ALWAYS end up exposing them (and possibly you) to your enemies far more than it benefits you.

"AI" users are like, "I know this is imprecise but as a convenience these transcriptions are better than nothing"

then 70 years from now we'll still be struggling to debunk these entirely hallucinated transcriptions of thousands of manuscripts that were pissed into the pool of human knowledge.

some things are worse than nothing. "signal-shaped noise" is worse than nothing.

Campism and fascism offer people the option of an incredibly *easy* approach to morality and politics. There’s a good guy team and a bad guy team and all the rest is trivial details.

But easier is not better. Anarchism requires us to approach human beings not as appendages of larger polities or racialized groups, but as actual, individual, whole people. There is no shortcut; you have to do the work. But it’s worth it not to end up as fascist monsters burning down ambulances or excusing violence against children.

Yes the U.S. has a terrible president but the very role of president guarantees eventual terribleness. When you create a powerful position, it's just a matter of time before the worst kind of person attains it, and by then all your precious checks and balances have eroded as well
