But we don't define wage theft by employers as a crime the same way as we define an employee stealing from the cash register, or a homeless person smashing a window. You don't go to jail for wage theft.

Again, this is an arbitrary decision around how we choose to define crime.

We could very easily decide that intentionally stealing more than $1000 from an employee is now a felony! Just like intentionally stealing $1000 from an employer is a felony. But you know that we won't.

It's wild that we're still having arguments about the value (and skewing effect) of social media platforms choosing what to amplify. Back in 2000, I was an editor on "Blogs of Note", which was the list of featured blogs on Blogger.com, at that time the most visible and "mainstream" social media platform. @ev had let me add new blogs to feature based on what was interesting, and _even then_ we knew that had an effect on how the platform was seen, and who became an influencer.
@anildash @ev And even more than that - how those acts of curation change the whole mindset/ethos/culture of a website (or the wider web if it's influential enough). I wrote a piece back in the 2000s about how curation sites like Fark weren't welcoming to women. Fark linked to it and I got a heap of rape and death threats.
@n8chz @naught101 @aidapsibr @Eramdam @rmondello The idea that there's a decentralized social network that stands at the forefront of what could be the future of digital spaces, and its users' consensus is that "information that the rights holder does not find profitable to preserve ought to be lost to the sands of time" is bizarrely pro-establishment to me. In a fight between publishing houses and libraries, I know which side I'm picking.
@mark "Wow I thought up an exciting idea/solution while in the shower!" --Someone who benefits from thinking in a relaxed creative environment but has been forced to work at arm's length from an extrovert control freak who wants to SEE them "working"

I'm confused when devs claim that you can't experiment with software on the fediverse. I have spent the last 5 years of my life building experimental software on the fediverse, and people have been very supportive!

There is a MASSIVE design space for weird ideas that are not just dressed-up surveillance capitalism, but so many devs come here saying "I will try out some dressed-up surveillance capitalism" and then act like their genius design thinking is being stymied when people say "fuck off"

LRT: I absolutely am not the target market for some of the previous DC animated direct to video movies like Flashpoint and Apokolips War, as I found they were too pointlessly grimdark and gory. I really am pleasantly surprised they would do a Legion of Superheroes one, and have always liked Supergirl/Braniac 5 dynamics in the comics. Hoping this one is a more grounded, personal story.
