Here to share #poetry, #pet pictures, and #psychology funfacts.

I develop #indiegames during the day and rip theatre tickets at night. You want to rant about #worldbuilding, #storytelling or #solarpunk? I want to join!

@AlexSanterne
In what ways did you alter your habits, and which side-effects (positive and negative) accompanied those changes? Did you travel less, or with different vehicles etc. ?

@kailaniloko

I tried potatoes, but planted them way too late in the year. I don't have any experiences with carrots and onions, since pots aren't ideal for those.

I really liked my cucumbers, but they needed a lot of sun and water. The cherry tomato variety I had was pretty low maintenance, but needed even more sun.

Radish, spinach and zucchini can handle a bit of shade, and are beginner friendly. But zucchini have some pretty common diseases that can be challenging.

@kailaniloko

I make a plan, and then try to adjust it to real life circumstances, especially time (and last year puppy) constraints.

The most important variables for me where: amount of sunlight needed, amount of (watering) effort, and optimal plant partners.
There's lot's of other stuff you can take into account, like timing (do you want to have multiple veggies in the same patch in the different seasons), but that's for future me to consider when I have more experience 😅

@kailaniloko

I've only had a balcony and small pots to grow vegetables in until now, but cucumbers and zucchini have been faring really well and produced a lot.

An important first step was to consider the amount of sun every part of my balcony gets, and choose veggies that fit (cucumbers did well in direct sunlight, zucchini was fine in the shadow).

Soil quality is an important factor (especially in limited space). Didn't want to buy new soil the second year, and my plants reflected that.

Ohhh, I really enjoy the first and last poems on that page.

The image of a child climbing into bed reminds me of both the excitement of a new morning and the responsibilities tied to it.

And the descriptions in the last one are really vivid and tactile, I love it!

@me_brady
I had that yesterday with care tasks (aka household chores). I was fixating on way too big tasks, and getting overwhelmed enough that I started searching desperately for a podcast or video to tell me what to do. When nothing came up, I realised that I knew exactly what I was searching for, what I needed to hear.
Cue to me walking through the house, recording myself narrating the steps I had to go through for a fictional audience. I can still "help others" even while being overwhelmed.

@sinibar My family does that too. My father takes it a step further: He looks for newspaper articles that fit with the present or feature big, beautiful pictures he knows we would like, and wraps our gifts in them. That's caring in a way bought paper can't beat, and it often adds infos or jokes to the present.

I recently discovered gift bags for myself: They're sturdy enough to be reused multiple times, not just two-three times, and require less sticky tape.

@ninalets2 I had an add-on for Firefox that showed which images on Twitter contained #AltText. Couldn't find anything like that for Mastodon though... Maybe an inspired #WebDeveloper could create it?

@Geoff Thank you for that tip! I already had to edit my very first post, because I'm used to pressing Ctr + Enter when I try NOT to send something out on Discord, and apparently here it's the other way around 😅
@RockyM I'll consider it, thank you for the advice! At some point I want my writing to be connected to my person, but maybe it'll easier to start without my picture...
