New emojis on Scholar today

Disagreeing with me personally about generative AI is not against the rules on Scholar
Having an account where literally all the posts are some sort of pro-generative AI spam is against the rules on Scholar
(We have a "no spam" rule)
New emoji on Scholar today:
Many thanks! @aldercone https://freesvg.org/no-ai-icons
In light of their open embrace of far-right moderation (see link below), Scholar will be defederating from fosstodon.org completely in 1 week (on 2025-05-02, unless the situation changes, in which case we will re-evaluate of course)
https://awawa.club/objects/c8dc8015-2dca-41f6-b20c-df4f77957b78
(We already have fosstodon.org limited, due to near-constant reply-guys and lax moderation; this will break follow relationships)
Notice: Scholar Social will not be participating in April fools' day
This means that there will be not be any practical jokes coming on the part of the admin
I don't want my users to have to second-guess this account
It also means that expectations for:
* Maintaining a safe space,
* Descriptive and accurate content warnings,
* Respect for other users
* All other Community Standards
... will be enforced on April 1 just like any other day
Yes you can talk about current events, you are not being censored
Yes you can even post about them on Public visibility
But if you do that on Scholar, you need to respect other users by asking them for consent, and that means using a Content Warning, even if your post isn't "disturbing"
Reminder that I will be enforcing Scholar's policy that all current events posts with Public visibility setting need a CW
This policy has been in place since 2017; I made an announcement earlier this year warning everyone that I would be more strict about it again due to the current political situation
You should not be surprised
This policy exists so that our users can have even one (1) space on the entire internet that doesn't foist the outrage of the day on them
Hi everyone
Paid the most recent bill from masto.host, which came to $1038.40
This was offset by $845.80 from the Scholar Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theresearchfairy
So the remainder, $192.60 came out of my own pocket
(All $ amounts CAD)
If you are on Scholar and the continued existence of the instance is important to you, please consider putting a few coins in the jar
A reminder to Scholar users to use content warnings for current events, especially on the Local Timeline (posts that are visible via Live feeds > This server)
Thanks for understanding!
I will be starting the upgrade to Mastodon v4.3.0 on Masto.host.
This is a large upgrade and I will need to monitor the infrastructure while it is being deployed. So, it can take a while to reach every instance on Masto.host.
You can expect a couple of minutes of downtime during the upgrade.
