Just finished shutting down my company Tangle.
Closing up shop digitally always feels really weird - it's so final, so permanent. You close out a github account here, delete a slack instance there, and suddenly there is no history of all that digital work done. It's all just.... gone.
And so instantly. There is almost no trace of the company left, and we were in business for 4 years.
I often struggle to properly conceptualize Random events and items in games I design. I always fall back on the "Deck of Cards" analogy -- it so nicely captures repetition, weighting, and "prevention of doubles" issues that crop up.
Over the years, I've cut-n-paste the same set of helper code across all my projects, to give me quick access to "card-like" randomization. And today - I release that code to the public! MIT License, use it for free!
