To Block or Not to Block: That Is the Survey
Who, When and Why Do We Block on Twitter? This survey aims to map how Twitter users utilise blocking within the platform and what thoughts they have regarding blocking and being blocked. The survey is aimed at ALL Twitter users, so even if you don't utilise blocking, your answers are important. "Why aren't you blocking?" is an interesting question too. Also, even if you don't block, you might have experienced being blocked. If the Recent Events have affected how you are currently using Twitter, please answer the questions based on what you did Before. This form consists of the following parts: 1. Background Information: Demographic 2. Background Information: Twitter 3. Background Information: Fandom 4. Blocking Behaviour / Non-Blocking Behaviour 5. Reasons to Block 6. Being Blocked / Never Been Blocked 7. Final Thoughts The questions that determine which parts of the form you will see are mandatory: Are you in any fandoms on Twitter? (no -> skip part 3) Have you blocked anyone on Twitter? ( no -> Non-Blocking Behaviour) Have you ever been blocked on Twitter? (no -> Never Been Blocked) Other questions are optional, but please answer as many of them as possible. How many questions are there? 25-60, depending on your answers to the mandatory questions. But fear not! Most of them are either multiple choice or checkbox questions. There are only 5 text field questions and one of those is your age. Answering all 60 questions takes approximately 10-30 minutes. The survey is completely anonymous (email addresses are not collected) and the results will be published in a way that prevents the identification of individuals. The survey form closes on November 20th 2022 at 18:00 UTC. This survey is conducted by Tikli (@Ao3Tikli on Twitter, other platforms: Linktree) and their motivation is pure curiosity. There's been a lot of talk about blocking in the Our Flag Means Death fandom Twitter, and it's become clear there are several different approaches to blocking. That's like catnip to a hobby statistician. The survey report will be posted on Twitter via @ofmdresearch later this year.
