We lost our dear little Penny. Losing a bird was always a worry. But I never expected it to be so soon and so cruel. Penny prolapsed, which I won’t go in to detail about, but it was very severe and she suffered a lot of damage. It happened suddenly. I noticed first thing in the morning and she was rushed to the vets… it was a bad prognosis and they put her down straight away. There was no warning. She was her happy little self when I put her to bed the night before. This is our first time owning birds. We didn’t know this could happen. One minute we were taking care of her, and the next minute we were burying her. It seems totally unfair the way she went. An unnecessary loss of life for no real reason.

Penny was this largest character in the flock, so we were naturally closer to her. She was full of confidence, the first to eat from our hands and the first to be touched. All of the ducks have their own little personalities, and we adore them all. But it does feel a little quiet around here now. We miss you sweet Penny❤️
