@imani question regarding 3d-printed wheelchairs: would you accept that goal as having been met if some or most parts were off-the-shelf generics that simply get assembled into a chair-shaped framework?

@ghost_bird Maybe this is just my lack of familiarity with the genre, but the only cogent reading I can find is "this is a high-concept way of mocking how unreasonably wordy and purple I consider the object of my attention to be."

well. "cleaned off" is a strong term, but now I'm vertical so.

(it turns out being bedridden for a year and a half isn't great for your back, either, and i am having to put WAY too much effort into sitting up straight.)

@ghost_bird Ahhh, I see. I have, unfortunately, never read anything by Herbert- Dune's reputation in the popular conscience let me know that I wouldn't like it without ever having to pick it up, and conversely, I've never heard of Herbert having written anything *other* than Dune.

@ghost_bird well okay the misogyny was definitely an accusation I've seen leveled at him. It's *libertarian* that's specifically novel to me.

@ghost_bird That's an interesting take I haven't seen expressed anywhere before now; mostly I see criticism along the lines of Hebert perpetuating an old and toxic misconception about "hard times make strong men" and the like.

Would you mind elaborating? Or is there a blog post somewhere that's already done the elaborating?

annoyinge when media has everyone have the same body type. it makes it clear that what youre seeing isn't "really" what any particular character looks like, just the best approximation with this one-size-fits-none art style.

i remain unconvinced that literally every woman, including those with grey hair, has THAT perky a rack in this medieval-ish fantasy setting. or that there are literally no fat people.

its also kinda weird to hear explicit commentary on a character's figure when literally everyone we see looks like that. how, precisely, was i supposed to know that boobgirl #87 was ESPECIALLY boobalicious compared to the others despite how thats... clearly, visually not the case? like, i can see her boobs, game. youve made me look at them rather extensively. youre fooling nobody.
