@slime I'll provide some fun timezone facts that aren't just something as basic as "from the big diomedes and little diomedes islands you can literally see into a different day (because the international date line goes through right there)".

How about: unofficial time zones

1. There is a tiny little part of Australia consisting of 5 little towns/villages/localities around the border of the states of western and south australia (only one village in the latter), which unofficially uses UTC+8:45, a completely different timezone from the rest of Australia. There is a municipality that recognizes its borders and usage, but officially it's not recognized by the whole government. The "main" sort of village associated with it is Eucla, located right on the border of WA, and it has a museum for an old telegraph station.

2. In the Zakarpattia region of Ukraine, some places more than others, Central European Time is unofficially used rather than the Kyiv time zone which all of Ukraine officially uses. (Note: you could also mention that occupied territories instead use moscow time.) The region is separated from the rest of Ukraine by mountains, hence its name which is roughly "Place behind mountains". Zakarpattians argue that the name is also true for the rest of Ukraine from their point of view. They're very close to a few European borders, and have a lot more of their influence, even to the point of having a dialect that can be very different at times. My dad has been there many times for work before the war. You'll see many things operate in their unofficial local time. If you're not a local, you might hear people specifically telling you that it's X:XX "by kyiv time".

- brazil has multiple timezones
- 18:00 is ahead of 12:00
- UTC-3 to UTC+6 is not a 6 hour difference regardless of the direction you go
- irkutsk is in UTC+8 (which also isn't 6 hours behind)
- myanmar uses UTC+6:30
- nepal uses UTC+5:45
