in the car with
@ipg atm and she isnt shutting up about tim sweeny and fortnite festival
@lexd0g just completely broke
@woomie's windows install to the point nothing is working, and when i told
@ipg that windows cant write dump her face dropped like an angry video game nerd thumbnail
oh also also, vive has really responsible packaging. not a single bit of plastic other than a bit of plastic peel protecting the glossy vive logo on the back. couldve been safely omitted but whatever.
i cant login to discord because they forgot to add the 0 key to the numpad
oh, overall, dont get this headset. if you want eye and face tracking, just get a quest pro. if youre not fussed about that, get a quest 3. if you dont like meta then get a pico 4/4 pro. this headset doesnt really have a market outside of businesses which rewuife it's specialisation features like shared playspaces and kiosk mode
so i bought this thing. heres my thoughts:
the good
- super small
- really slight
- modular strap lets you use it with pretty much any strap you want
- 'hotswap' battery, so you can easily change battery without worrying about the device turning off
- its not that uncomfortable, its not the comfiest, but its certainly better than most
- diopter adjustment, who needs glasses!?
- very well balanced weight wise, neither front nor back heavy. no forehead strain either
the average
- the pancakes arent good nor bad. they have blurriness, but no distortion or fresnel lile glare. they do their job
- the fov is on the lower end but isnt problematically bad, about 95°
- the passthrough is a mono colour camera, though vive did a good job of making it have a fake depth. its good enough to where
- the battery life is 2 hours, totally fits in with the bunch
- hand trscking is present. its not as good as metas obviously, but its certainly usable. its smoothed to the point making accurate ui usage a breeze, which is what it should do!
- i think it also looks pretty cool, tho the strap looks bad lmao
the ugly
- the streaming software (required for full face tracking) is absolutely awful, low quality and jittery with very common dropouts
- the controllers, the single worst ones ive ever used. the triggers feel like the 2014 prototype vive wands, the buttons feel like a hyper cheap ali express toy. the grip only works when you click it in fully, and the joystick feels like that one broken xbox 360 controller your dog had a go at.
- the included top strap doesnt do much. its hard to sdjust snd get right
- turning it off is annoying, you have to put it on and hold the headset button for a few seconds. you cant just hold it!
- it will constantly prompt for you to connect the controllers, even if youre using hand tracking or an app which doesnt require them
- battery life drops to only 1 hour with vive ultimate trackers and full face tracker connected
