The Linux kernel is just a program

Most books and courses introduce Linux through shell commands, leaving the kernel as a mysterious black box doing magic behind the scenes. In this post, we will run some experiments to demystify it: the Linux kernel is just a binary that you can build and run.

I love films like '300', where the main character says something like, 'Get some sleep, for tomorrow we will battle to the death', and then everyone goes off to sleep in some wet grass, fully clothed. I can't sleep in a warm bed if I have a conference call about content at 10 am.

Why Large Language Models Won’t Replace Engineers Anytime Soon https://fastcode.io/2025/10/20/why-large-language-models-wont-replace-engineers-anytime-soon/

It doesn't matter whether the LLM can actually do the software dev tasks or not. The people in charge are batshit crazy about LLMs and are drinking too much Kool Aid. They believe it's a magic bullet and want to maximize their bottom line before everything crashes and goes to /dev/null. They don't care about environmental damages or job loss. Only psychopaths can sleep peacefully causing this much damages.

Explore the mathematical and cognitive limits that stop large language models from achieving true human-like engineering intelligence

The 5 stages of my use of open source operating systems:

1. 1995 - Cost
Couldn't afford a C compiler so tried the free one in Linux.

2. 2000 - Hobby
Fun messing about with xorg.conf and lil.conf and different window managers, making ethernet work. How to get the keyboard working in openbsd!

3. 2003 - Reliable workhorse
Hey, I can do lots of work and it doesn't crash and lose all my work, unlike Windows.

4. 2015-2025 - Leaving
I want apps - Windows 2000, Windows 7.
I want decent hardware - MacOS.

5. 2026 - Return
I want privacy back.
