Affordable housing done right with this mixed-income development. With the right architect great things can be achieved.
Carnegie Hall landmarked window replacement drawings and details by
#simpletwig architecture. This project made sure the wide variety of windows were efficient, operable and historically accurate.
On large projects, sustainability means the building is able to be transformed into other uses as societies needs change, whose design is appreciated and whose envelope can withstand the elements effectively (to lower maintenance costs).
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, from everyone at
#simpletwig including our lab.
#nyc #midtown #architecture #urbanlife #nycarchitectThe biggest obstacle to making towns and cities more likable are people with no education in urban planning or architecture making decisions that typically degrade the aesthetics of their communities. Businesses are investing in new buildings, it’s up to us to mold a town so its placement and character do the most good for the community, which always encourages more investment.
Towns need to design parking hubs on the outskirts and remove vehicles from the center, to make a place worth visiting. Kick out everything that says they need a parking lot. NYC has managed, so can smart towns. The extra sales tax will ensure success.
Urban sprawl costs towns 3x more to maintain than condensed urban centers. Such a waste of taxes when we could be creating beautiful places with the stuff we build. Mixing housing with business/commercial ensures lively places to live. Ugly commercial strips are out, walkable places with lots to see and do are in.
Architecture is about one thing: people.
Mega sized homes are empty homes. There’s is a maximum size which stays within the realm of quality living, just as there is a minimum size. I always accept the challenge of designing smaller homes to feel spacious.
The photons that bounce off your body and into the universe will travel for billions of years, and are bound to be experienced by someone.
