The last 18 months of building a car residual values forecasting tool have been somewhat outside my comfort zone, but a rewarding learning experience. Our product is due to go out to leasing companies for testing soon. Most car manufacturers have been supportive. A few have been . . . courageous . . . in avoiding keeping us in the loop on their product plans. We will forecast RVs for those vehicles anyway. But I’m looking forward to finally launching our product in the next few weeks.
@stuffaboutcars @CrackedWindscreen NDA, Joe. But Fleet News seemed to think my point in sustainability was made regarding oversupply of high-end EVs that the used car market wouldn’t have capacity for, and which will be increased by law iver the next six years. It was the one I was trying to make at least. Solid state batteries were very much on the fringe of the point I was making.
@stuffaboutcars @CrackedWindscreen I haven’t read any articles so you’ve got me there. I am under NDA about what I know though.
@CrackedWindscreen @stuffaboutcars I’m sorry. I did mention in the piece the first cars are scheduled for launch in 2027. I didn’t say anywhere they were out now.
@stuffaboutcars @CrackedWindscreen Fortunately, they will not be prevented by legislative issues or disputes about liability in the case of crashes and injury, so they should arrive on schedule. They’re already in the next-gen product plans of some OEMs.
@CrackedWindscreen I visit the Netherlands a lot, and many of the quieter streets with flats on the outskirts of cities have a couple of on-street chargers, maybe per 100 properties. For now, that’s ok, and I’m sure it will increase. We have nothing like that here.
@CrackedWindscreen We need lots of on-street slow chargers near flats/apartments where people can’t install a charger. Most only need to charge a couple of times a week. And those on the main roads network at services – and I can’t emphasise this enough – *need* to be reliable.
@CrackedWindscreen I’m all for EVs. I like most of them. But the used car buyer has not been in focus for policy makers at any point.
Opinion: ZEV mandate runs counter to true sustainability

Loading the future used car market with greater numbers of electric vehicles will have disastrous consequences for used values, says Simon Harris, head of valuations at UK Vehicle Data.

If anyone here would like a Bluesky code, I have a few.
