No Love No Lurking

Since our last update I have been pretty hands off with the tank. Water changes every other week and light feeding two days on and one day off.

I just went out of town for a week and came back to a happy tank with the only issue being the airstone unplugged itself. All the stock are accounted for and plants all look great.

I set up a second vase / fish bowl tank but have not introduced any stock yet. Will post pics when the time comes.

Tank Update - Day 132

It's been a while LOL Just wanted to let you all know the tank is still running smoothly.

Unfortunately we lost the Tiger Endler a short while after the last update but the Rasboras and shrimp have been thriving.

Both have had babies. We now have 8 Rasboras and I lost count of how many shrimp. The mystery snail and nerite are doing well too.

Some pics for you all :)

Kind of hard to see in the pic, but if you look closely you can see the Rasboras and the Endler. Mystery Snail is in the spotlight as usual. In the gravel down below you may be able to see some of the shrimp.

Tank Update - Day 48

My last update detailed some bad luck with my group of endlers and also filter intake mishaps.

Since then I have introduced 5 Sparrow Rasboras, 6 Neocaridina Shrimp, 2 Nerite Snails and 1 Mystery Snail.

The tank has been really lively and happy since. No more aggression issues with the fish. The rasboras and my lone endler are really friendly with each other. The snails and shrimp are all very active and happy as well.

Im super bummed rn. Our mystery snail climbed on to the filter intake pipe and got its body stuck and sucked into it over last night and died. Just got some sponge covers for it but damn this makes me sad. They were definitely my favorite part of the tank.

One more shot of the tank for the road.

Whenever I set up a new tank, I plan on pulling the val out and replacing with some anubias or something low lying and distinct in color to fill that section out.

That would also be a great opportunity to rehome the endlers to a larger tank. Maybe they won't be as aggro w/ each other if they are in a 10g.

Either way, I am adding shrimp next week!!

I did a 30% water change yesterday and along with that put in some smaller inflow/outflow pipes. The outflow is a spin pipe which has improved surface agitation and isn't overwhelming the tank with flow.

I also added some Eheim double taps to the tubing for easier maintenance in the future. I am super stoked on that!

Plant growth has been really good. With that water change I cut down some stem plants and replanted them.

I don't think the little one was getting enough to eat. I tried to feed him extra while the others were distracted but I could never tell if he was getting enough.

These endlers are really particular. They seem very focused on their ranks in the tank and are constantly harassing one another. Maybe I should have gone with a more docile fish.

In other news, the snails are doing great. The mystery snail is so much fun to watch.

Day 24 tank update - The brine shrimp experiment was a failure. I couldn't keep the water warm enough to get them to hatch. Reviews of the eggs said 36 hours, but we needed to leave around 24 hours so maybe timing was the issue. Will try again!

Also the littlest fish did not make it. We left for a visit with friends on Saturday and got back Sunday afternoon to the little one dead. He had been bullied to the point of isolation.
