The EDA industry in a nutshell:

> OpenAccess is a proprietary API controlled by the OpenAccess Coalition [...]

If there is even a single gram of truth to this…

Any instance that goes along with such a thing will be lost to surveillance capitalism. I don’t care how large they are or who they are, any instance that becomes Meta’s bitch should be defederated immediately by all others. Let the largest few get swallowed up whole by Silicon Valley if they’re dumb enough to do it. The rest of us will rebuild.

I really hope no one is stupid enough to take Meta up on this if it’s true. https://beach.city/@vantablack/110594120842443355

Attached: 2 images oh, here's some JUICY rumored details about meta's plans for the fediverse tl;dr "Meta will only federate with select larger instances from the beginning. There will be contracts which also provide for financial compensation for the instance owners." can't entirely verify their validity but it's still worth posting just in case #FediPact #barcelona #project92 #p92 #meta #facebook #fediverse #fediblockmeta #FediAdmin #MastoAdmin #threads

@FediThing I can see a number of benefits, *as long as the meeting is public*:

1. If Meta takes a public meeting, that shows how much they want/need it. That's already informative.

2. If they take that meeting, it allows fedi admins to ask some hard questions and inform them, publicly, of our concerns — this makes it impossible for them to "play dumb" later when they inevitably start causing problems.

There's probably more.

New: One of the hackers responsible for the 2020 Twitter hack that saw high profile Twitter accounts spread cryptocurrency scams has been sentenced to prison.

Joseph James O’Connor, 24, was sentenced Friday in a New York federal court after pleading guilty in May to four counts of computer hacking, wire fraud and cyberstalking.

Business—ownership—does not contribute to production. It can *only* earn revenue through sabotage. Without the fences, the toll booths, the armed guards, the enshitification, then owners do not earn any profits. Capitalism must constantly make things *worse* than they would be if we were free to produce to meet our own and each other’s needs.

Maybe you’ve seen the news about Reddit? Reddit is restricting access to its API so it can charge more from makers of third-party apps.

Reddit’s CEO had this to say:

“Reddit represents one of the largest data sets of just human beings talking about interesting things…We are not in the business of giving that away for free."

Oh My God He Admit It dot Gif

Huffman did not create “the largest data set of human beings talking about interesting things.” Reddits users did. What Huffman owns is a *fence* around those conversations, and he only earns a profit if he can *sabotage* access.

imo the emphasis right now should be on building a durable and resilient nonprofit network for essential global communications at the popular level.

our weakness is that as servers grow they become expensive and time consuming to manage and people burn out.

we should be making small server management easier, and recruiting existing nonprofit orgs with resources to join and run servers. we *can* solve our problems without working with evil corporations, but we have to make that choice
