I got to spend a couple of nights in a caboose at the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, MT this week. While I’m a bit of a transportation nerd, retired rail conveyance is not normally my lodging accommodation of choice. Temperatures outside got to -17°F, and a full 15 inches of snow fell on our second day there, making the cross-country ski trails quite the workout. The place was a unique experience. Five stars. Would recommend.

My 🚲 commute takes me from DC to Crystal City across the 14th St Bridge, and this interchange project will cut my paved route by over a mile. For the past four years, I’ve often taken its existing dirt trail and have appreciated the #bikedc volunteers who occasionally came through to cut back the brush. Work began just after Thanksgiving.
